Well it was a busy weekend for Chad Humston and the Mark Burch Motorsports #1m banana wagon. On Friday we made the short haul to Albion as the Holt County Sprints were on the card. We wanted to shake down a fresh engine before heading to Doniphan on Friday. We ran second in the heat to Doug Lovegrove and third in the feature. Congratulations to the Jamie Turpsma team with Toby Chapman behind the wheel on a job well done.
Saturday I headed home and Mavin and Chad headed to Giltner for maintenance. They prepared a stellar car for Saturday night at Doniphan. In the heat Chad started third and raced to the win. In the feature we started on the pole and led the first part of the race. About midway through, Zach Chappel got by for the lead but it wasn't over yet! After negotiating some traffic, Chad closed back in on the E-85 car. A bobble by Chapple in one and two caused Chad to check up and this allowed a closing Mike Peters and opportunity to strike. Peters made a great move to go from third to first and Chad got by Zach to bring home a nice second place finish!
Sunday Sedalia. A nice 5 hour leisurely drive to Sedalia at 80mph is how we all like to spend our Sunday afternoons. Well I haven't been to Sedalia since before Noah was a carpenter and before Don Droud Jr. ever had a gray hair. The track was totally different than what my memory told me so we just left the car like we had it at Doniphan. That didn't work so great, but we managed to pass a car in the heat and earn a 14th place starting spot in the main. There was no way we were going to get to the front with the level of competition ahead of us. Chad did a super job of taking care of the equipment, we got the car a lot closer and managed a very nice 7th place finish.
All in all it was a great weekend. We are looking forward to Cameron on Friday and Knoxville on Saturday.
