Well #$@#$%$##^!!!!
It would be really cool to be setting here telling you how everything worked out just like we planned and we were the 2010 360 Nationals Champion. But that is not the case.
Congratulations to Shane Stewart and Paul Silva and their Rock Star Energy Drink team on a great win. That was a big win for Wesmar Engines and Huggins cams and well deserved. When Chad and I talked before the race we really felt like it was going to come down to Chad and Shane. No disrespect to any of the other competitors either.
The fact that I am so proud of the progress our team has made in the last two years is what really makes this loss hurt the most. Last year we qualified terrible due to a crappy power steering pump and a rotten setup by me. We had to run the D and started 20th in C and ran 7th. Chad passed some great cars but to say we were a threat would be a huge understatement.
Turn the clock about 365 days and we really have a lot of reasons to smile. First of all the sun did come up today. Our own in house engine program proved it can run with any of the big dogs. Our Wolfweld chassis was on a rail all weekend. Can you believe that heat race from Thursday? Impressive job by Chad Humpston. Or is that Humeston? Perhaps it is Humpstein? It won't be long and they will all be spelling it right!
I want to send a big shout out to some people.
Brian Brown: Thanks for being a fierce competitor and a great ambassador of the sport. Let's face it, your no Sammy Swindell, thank goodness for that! Including Dustin and Chad in the post race celebration was very classy and something most people would never do.
Shane Stewart: You know Shane eats, sleeps, drinks, and breaths racing. You can see it in his eyes and how he carry's himself. Shane is a class act and I think Paul Sliva is probably the most under-rated car owner in the country. If these guys had and Outlaw budget there is no doubt in my mind that they could handle the greatest show on dirt.
Don Droud Jr: Don is the only driver who ever really taught me how to make my car fast. He helped me to build my team to what it is today and for that I will always be greatful. I always enjoy talking racing with him because we always had, and still have an un-canny ability to communicate about race cars and dirt.
Doug Wolfgang: After the unfortunate end to our Cinderella story 360 Nationals, the first guy in our pit area to help get our car rolling again was Wolfie. I know he would never tell me how much he wanted to see his chassis win the 360 Nationals, but I know deep down inside he would have would have had at least one warm fuzzy.
Terry McCarl: Here's a guy that use to be my nemesis. Back in the day I wouldn't even let him in my pit area. But love him or hate him T-Mac is racer through and through. We may be feeling sorry for ourselves for falling out of the 360 Nationals, but my soul brother Terry has it way worse off right now than I do. If there is anybody who is totally capable of winning the Knoxville Nationals it's T-Mac. I know he is going to be out for a while waiting for his leg to heal up. But I know T-Mac and he is like the Terminator. Especially now with added titanium rods. When Terry gets healed up and gets his 2011 plans ironed out, I'm picking him for the Nationals. I called it!
Billy Alley: It's great to see Billy at the racetrack and having fun again. I know it's been a tough season with engines but dude I've been there. Driving home last weekend we talked on the CB from Walnut to Waverly with the pedal to the metal! I am honored to have Billy as one of my friends. He and Aislynne are going to be great parents, I guarnatee it!
....more later...
