LASOSKI FINISHES SEASON WITH PAIR OF TOP FIVES IN TUCSON

Inside Line Promotions – TUCSON, Ariz. (Nov. 20) – Danny Lasoski had to fund his own sprint car team for most of this season. It was a position the veteran from Dover, Mo., didn’t want to be in, yet one he thrived in.

Lasoski finished the season with 12 victories and 39 top fives, including two this past weekend at the 44th annual Western World Championships at USA Raceway in Tucson, Ariz. Driving for Mark Burch Motorsports at the ASCS National Tour event, Lasoski finished second in his qualifying night on Friday and fourth in Saturday’s finale.

“I would have liked to end the season with a couple of wins,” he said. “But Mark and I were just talking and in the 12 races we’ve teamed up this season, I think we have 10 top fives and three wins. I’ve been lucky to race for Mark at the end of this season.

“Also, I can’t thank Tony Ross and Todd Creason enough for their support. Running your own program is very, very tough, especially without any monetary help. I couldn’t have done this year without Tony, Todd and all of the guys who’ve crewed for me and helped along the way.”

Lasoski had a tough task after drawing the fourth-highest pill on Friday, which started him last – eighth – in his eight-lap heat race. However, it didn’t take him long to move forward. Lasoski was in fifth on the first lap and drove from fifth to third in turns three and four on the third lap.

“The key to those heat races are the first lap,” he said. “If there was a car length enough where we could get by there, we had to take the chance. A lot of times that hole closes and it hurts you. We were just lucky enough that it worked out for us.”

Lasoski finished third, which gave him enough points to advance to the feature redraw. He then pulled the No. 1 to line up on the pole for the 25-lap feature, which locked the top eight into Saturday’s $15,000-to-win main event.

“When they dropped the green flag, we got beat going down the straightaway,” he said. “Then, I stayed on the bottom too long. We just had to bide our time until lapped traffic.”

Lasoski maintained a top three for the entire race and he finished second – a few car lengths behind Brad Sweet – to secure a position in Saturday’s main event.

“We’re never happy with second, but we knew what the big picture was and locking into Saturday’s main event was important,” he said.

Lasoski started the big-money feature on Saturday in fourth place and stayed in the top five for the entire 30 laps, which went green to checkered without a caution. He climbed to second on lap 13th with a two-car pass on the bottom of turns three and four. However, Lasoski dropped a couple of positions in lapped traffic and he settled for fourth place.

“Sprint car racing is educated guessing,” he said. “We thought it’d take rubber at the end, which it didn’t. Our car wasn’t that far off, but we could have done a few things different.”

Lasoski, who claimed his unprecedented ninth Knoxville Raceway championship earlier this year, is uncertain what his plans are for next season.
