Chad Humston - Chillin' and Grillin'

If any of you have had a chance to stop by www.chadhumston.com and check out the latest news, you will see that Chad is taking a break from sprint car racing this summer. Although this may disappoint fans throughout the Midwest, I think that stepping back and looking at the big picture everyone will understand. Especially if this summer is going to be hotter than it was today!

I really did not know a thing about Cystic Fibrosis until I met the Humston clan. However, I had seen Chad at the racetrack even when he was just a youngster. He had some success and is definitely a "gasser." If someone in my family, or even myself was inflicted with this disease I would probably be devastated. But not if your last name is Humston, and especially not if your first name is Chad.

You see, I have had the pleasure of having some really great drivers behind the wheel our or family's 1m sprinter. And once Chad and I started to gel he would prove that he belongs right there with the best of them. Chad has the kind of talent and drive that really makes him special. So much in fact, that I easily would forget that he ever had CF. I know there were some nights when he was really out of it, and I was asking him to go beat guys like Jason Johnson, Tim Keading, Shane Stewart and the likes. Many of those nights he did just that.

Chad's family has always been behind him 100%. Now he has a new member - wife Erin who is part of the clan. She is a wonderful young lady and has taken quite a bit of ribbing along the way - a good sport if you will. Erin is always good help at the car wash - especially with Dan's direction! Chad and Erin have a really neat older farm house and buildings that they have done a super job with. It's always nice to have some time for those kinds of things.

I am really proud to call Chad my friend. He got us some legitimate wins at Knoxville in the 360 class. We won in Mari's hometown of McCool Junction. Put it on the pole of the 360 Nationals. Chad is just flat out Bad-A$$ at Belleville. We kissed the dirt on the Belleville front stretch and we cheated at Albion - I think!!!

Anyways, Chad, you taught me more about being a person than I ever taught you about race cars, and for that I will always be grateful and treasure your friendship.

Your sincere friend,

Mark
